El Cevichero plans permanent store at Brooks City Base

El Cevichero operates food trucks around town.

El Cevichero is one of the more popular businesses serving up fresh ceviche and birria across San Antonio, with its small fleet of food trucks that park at places like El Camino and Vibras. Now, the business is planting roots on the city's Southside, according to a recent Instagram post.

On Monday, October 9, El Cevichero announced that it would be opening its own brick-and-mortar location at Brooks City Base, dubbed El Cevichero Restaurant y Cantina. The exact address is listed as 2603 SE Military Drive, which puts it in the same building that once housed Luna Rosa Puerto Rican Grill y Tapas.

El Cevichero had humble beginnings, starting off as a delivery service operating out of owner Abel Mota Jr.'s mother's kitchen. The concept would eventually go mobile with a food truck, and the business grew from there.

The folks behind El Cevichero.

"I’ve always said Cevichero will be successful because of the team we have created with my family. We all bring something to the table, and this would not be possible without them," Mota wrote in the caption of an Instagram post about the business. Mota's mother Betty Perez remains a partner in the business and is an integral part of the chef team.

A grand opening for the new El Cevichero brick-and-mortar will be announced in the coming weeks, but it is poised to open sometime before the end of 2023. The new space will feature a beachy aesthetic, with ocean blue floors, tropical mural, and neon lights.
