CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids caterer and former NewBo City Market vendor has moved to its own space.

Chef Allie Lanham, owner of The Hangry Lady, opened a new location on Sept. 27 at 1101 Third St. SE — just across the street from her former location. The move marks her first into an independent, brick-and-mortar shop.

Lanham, 27, previously served as a chef de cuisine at Caucho for two years, where she was named one of the Iowa Restaurant Association’s 40 Women to Watch. Before opening at NewBo City Market in June 2021, the Kirkwood Community College Culinary Arts graduate also served as an executive chef at Popoli until its second and final closure.

With a customer base built through catering, Lanham has garnered a reputation for quality charcuterie boards and grazing tables. Her new storefront features a menu of soups, salads, to-go charcuterie and cold-pressed juices.

The corner shop, kitty-corner from Raygun, was previously home to vegan cafe Rawlicious. Rawlicious, which opened in July 2017, closed earlier this year at the request of landlord CSPS. The request came as the owner, a nonprofit arts organization, hoped to find a more active occupant for the space.
